Who We Serve: Two Kinds of Clients, One Engineering Bench

We run digital marketing for home-services trades and build custom software for operations-heavy businesses — one Naperville engineering team behind both.

Half our clients run trucks. The other half run production floors, clinics, and parts warehouses. None of them have patience for impressions or brand-lift decks. They want to know whether the phone rang, the order shipped, the job booked — and so do we.

Techlancer started as a custom software shop in Naperville, Illinois, back in 2016. The marketing practice grew out of the software work, not the other way around. We kept getting handed slow, untrackable websites to fix, and eventually decided we’d rather build the whole machine ourselves.

What industries does Techlancer serve?

Two groups. Home-services trades — roofing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, remodeling, landscaping, windows and doors — hire us for engineering-led digital marketing. Operations-heavy businesses — manufacturers, healthcare and telehealth practices, auto parts distributors, professional services firms — hire us to build custom software.

Different problems on the surface. Underneath, the same discipline: measure first, build carefully, prove it worked.

Why does each trade need its own marketing plan?

Because demand runs on a different clock in every trade, and a generic campaign burns budget against the wrong calendar. A roofer’s year turns on storm season. A landscaper’s phone goes quiet in January and rings off the hook in April. A plumber’s best customer is typing “burst pipe” into a phone at 2 a.m., and whoever loads first and answers first gets that job.

So roofing campaigns get built around insurance-claim searches and the trust deficit storm chasers leave behind. HVAC splits into two campaigns — emergency repair and researched replacement — because those are different buyers. Plumbing is won in the map pack at midnight. Landscaping is booked in late winter, before the first mow.

What stays constant is the infrastructure: a Google Business Profile that’s actually maintained, Local Services Ads managed against cost per booked job, Search Console and GA4 wired so every lead traces back to its source, and a site fast enough that a homeowner standing in the driveway doesn’t give up on it. Our home services marketing page walks through the whole system.

Who hires Techlancer for custom software?

Businesses whose operations have outgrown their tools. A manufacturer scheduling production in a spreadsheet three people edit at once. A telehealth practice stitching intake, scheduling, and billing across systems that don’t talk to each other. A parts distributor whose inventory still lives in an Access database from 2009.

For them we do custom software development and business process automation — client portals, quoting and scheduling systems, integrations that end the rekeying. Our case studies show the pattern: find the bottleneck, build the smallest system that removes it, then support it for years.

Why keep marketing and software in one firm?

Because underneath, it’s the same job. A marketing site that passes Core Web Vitals and a production scheduling app are both engineering problems — speed, structure, tracking, data integrity. Most agencies write ads on top of websites they can’t fix. Most software shops build systems nobody can find. We sit in the middle on purpose.

It shows up in practical ways. When a landing page needs to change, the person who codes it is the person running the campaign, so it ships this week instead of waiting in another vendor’s queue. And when the marketing works well enough that the back office becomes the new bottleneck — too many quotes, not enough hands — the team that caused the problem is already in the building to fix it.
